Your "real" extrema are above where you think they are, because your off-curve control points go too far—too high at the top and too low at the bottom. They should never cross over the line…4 -

That's pretty weird. I would think line breaks would be highly expected in certain fields, such as license info.1 -

I heartily endorse iKern. Best (semi-)automated kerning I have seen. I am sure the semi-automated nature of it is part of its success—tuning for best results per different typeface.2
